Thanksgiving Coffee Company

Mirembe Kawomera Delicious Peace CoffeeDelicious Peace Coffee is the first Fair Trade Certified Ugandan coffee to reach the market in the United States, but what makes it even more remarkable is the collective effort that has Jewish, Christian and Muslim farmers working side by side in peace to build unity and prosperity in their community.

$1.00 per bag is donated directly back to the cooperative for community development projects.

Mirembe Kawomera (which means Delicious Peace in the Ugandan language) is produced by the Peace Kawomera Cooperative and the story behind the coffee is nothing short of remarkable.

The Arabica varieties cultivated by these growers originated in Ethiopia and were planted nearly 100 years ago.

The rich volcanic soil and shade canopy on the slopes of a dormant volcano in Eastern Uganda produce a coffee that is "full-bodied and lively, with hints of pecan and notes of nutmeg, and a lingering sensation of malty antiquity."

During the three-month harvest season, the Peace Kawomera Cooperative hand-picks their ripened coffee cherries in small batches and carefully prepares the beans for export.

By setting aside old differences to work as one, the 750-plus members of the Peace Kawomera Cooperative are able to collectively sell their coffee directly to the Thanksgiving Coffee Company for a price four times higher than they were receiving as individuals.

This enables them to reinvest in their farms, educate their children and invest in community development.
